Ready Your Hearts: The Advent Call to Vigilance

Happy New Year! The first Sunday of Advent marks the beginning of a new church year and invites us into a season of preparation and hope. While the world urges us to shop, plan parties, and chase after Black Friday deals, Advent offers a countercultural call: to ready our hearts, stay vigilant, and focus on the coming of Christ.

In Sunday’s message, we reflected on Luke 21:25-36, where Jesus reminds us to lift our eyes beyond life’s distractions and challenges. The passage calls us to watch for signs of God’s redemption and live with confident hope. Advent is not just a season to look back on the birth of Christ but also to look forward to his return, trusting that God’s promises will come to fruition.

This hope isn’t passive; it shapes how we live each day. In a world burdened by fear, division, and uncertainty, we are called to stand together with courage, compassion, and faith. Our preparation for Christ’s coming is rooted in acts of love, justice, and service that reflect God’s light in the midst of darkness.

As we step into this sacred season, may we embrace the hope of Advent and share it with others. Let us be vigilant in prayer, steadfast in faith, and ready in heart for the redemption that has already come near in Jesus.

May the light of Christ guide us as we journey through Advent together.

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Sela
