God’s Word

Scripture: Psalm 119:105 (NRSV) “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

Devotion: When I look at Advent, I think about prayer, scripture, and fellowship. The verse in Psalms that I read a lot during this season as a reminder to do my daily reading has been Psalms 119:105. God’s word is a light to me that leads me through this season of Advent into the birth of Christ. This verse, to me, has been one of the beautiful lines in this poem that has lifted me throughout the years that I have read it. He is the word, and accordingly to the Gospel of John verse 1, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” These words point to the Word beginning eternal. During Advent, I have learned to fully celebrate Christmas, embracing that time to remember Jesus’ birth and that I receive forgiveness and salvation through His life, death, and resurrection. I have an opportunity to share this revelation about my relationship with Him with others.

Prayer: Dear Lord, thank you for coming into the world as one of us so we may learn to show the way to love, to forgive, and to show your grace to others as you have shown. Amen!
