Rejoice

Scripture: Philippians 4:4 (KJV) “Rejoice in the Lord always, and again I say rejoice.”

Devotion: Paul is writing to the church at Phillip when he says this. In this holiday season, we are to rejoice in Christ’s gift of his birth. In remembering past Christmases, I find joy in giving to others. Even when our family had little, we were taught to share with others. I especially remember the time we took gifts of food to a family. Even though we could not afford to buy new toys for the children, The 4 Ellis children went through our toy box and shared our gently used toys with them. It was exciting to take these things to them after the children had gone to bed.

The Elrod family and Youth have asked us to give warm clothes, blankets, and coats to share with the homeless. Our evening circle of UMW has invited you to bring items for the cleaning buckets that will be sent to United Methodist Committee on Relief. Many other opportunities exist to share with others during this holiday time. Joy really does come in giving to others.

Prayer: God, be with those who have so little this year. May we find joy in giving to others. Amen.
